Below is a powerful, but difficult lecture by Dr. Jennifer Hardman on parenting stereotypes within the context of parental alienation.

Dr. Harman is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Colorado State University and is the Program Coordinator for the Applied Social & Health Psychology Program.

Poignant points were:

• How easy parental alienation can occur
• How parenting stereotypes ‘buy in’ to the unknowing ‘sympathisers’ of the alienating parent
• Parental alienation being addressed as a form of child abuse

This video will only take 13 minutes of your time, but the education you will receive will hopefully last a lifetime. Alienation can happen at any age to any child (or adult child), even a child who seems to have a wonderful relationship with both parents. One negative remark is all it takes and manipulators are quite good with words and the arrangement of words. If you do not know what to listen for, it would fly right past you. Question what you hear; what you are told. Don’t be an enabler.
