We recently returned from a trip to the Northeast United States, visiting New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. While we experienced some inclement weather at the beginning, the sun began to shine, and we had beautiful weather for the remainder of our trip.

I will be detailing the trip in upcoming blog posts. KOA campgrounds saved our bacon on this trip. We began our trip before the “season” began and faced some challenges finding camping spots. With a few clicks of a mouse and a few detours, we were able to KOA hop as we called it. It may have been spring when we left Southern Louisiana, the northeast was still in its shoulder season between winter and spring, which is known as the “mud” season. This meant that all state parks were still closed to campers. Many of the trails in the parks were open so we were able to hike to several beautiful waterfalls. It would have been nice to stay in the parks, so if you are planning to camp throughout the northeast, keep in mind that most state parks and private parks do not open until the end of May. There were a few KOAs that we rolled into on their first open day and were the only campers in one of the campgrounds for four days!

In addition to KOAs, we also used Harvest Hosts and Boondockers Welcome on this trip and we mooch docked at a daughter’s house.

Roadtrippers is one of the trip-planning apps I use and as the picture indicates, there were a lot of stops.

So, travel along as we explore the northeast and let me know if you have visited any of the sights.
