We are hoping to pick up our travel schedule again and put some miles on those wheels soon. Meantime, we had a few projects we wanted to do on the Airstream, one of which is a map table. I have always had a love for maps and having one laminated to the tabletop is kind of a dream come true! As all travelers know, you can be on one trip and already planning the next. This project feeds my addiction to travel!

The process was fairly easy. I think the most difficult part of the project was having to mix the epoxy SLOWLY to avoid adding air bubble to the mixture and then the wait time for the epoxy to cure. My husband used a beautiful piece of wood for the table. It had a very smooth finish. He made a frame around the bottom to give it some strength and to keep it from bowing. We used Scor-tape (I am a crafter and that is what I had on hand) to adhere the laminated map to the table.

We applied two-inch scor-tape strips to all four sides and then length-wise we applied strips at the 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 marks for a total of five strips going lengthwise. The tape is very thin and works well for a project like this.

Once this step was completed, we mixed the epoxy and applied a thin coat. It is mix and pour. We let the first coat cure for twelve hours and then we applied a final thick coat to the tabletop. This coat cured for 72 hours and we removed the hardware from the original tabletop and attached to the new tabletop.

We are quite pleased with how the project turned out. The top is like glass and very smooth.
