For Keeps by Skylar Hill – Promo & Giveaway

For Keeps
by Skylar Hill

Lily Adler has a big problem: just weeks after moving in with her boyfriend, she finds him in bed with another woman! She’s washed her hands of the cheating jerk, but now she’s hard up for a place to live.

Enter Wes Cartwright, the guy who’s subletting the loft Lily’s slimeball ex convinced her to lease out. Ever since Wes adopted his infant niece, Dawn, his life’s been complicated. The sexy architect is trying to be the best Daddy he can be, but he’s out of his element with diapers and bouncy swings.

When he finds out Lily spent three years working as an au pair, he sees an opportunity and offers her a deal: They can share the apartment in exchange for help with Dawn and a crash course in Daddy 101 for Wes. Lily’s between jobs, and the last thing she wants to do is apartment hunt, so she agrees.

As Lily weaves herself into Wes and Dawn’s lives, he finds himself irresistibly drawn to the perky blonde and her optimistic spirit. Her killer curves don’t hurt, either. Falling for the nanny is such a cliché, but after Wes accidentally walks in on Lily in the shower, all bets are off.

Cliché or not, she will be his.

And he’s playing for keeps.

$0.99 or Free on KU!

Snippet 1:
He yanked the door open, and instead of finding a delivery man like he expected, one of the most luscious-looking blondes he’d ever seen stood at his door.

Her hair was a dark honey color, hanging straight around her face, swinging down past her shoulder blades. Her face was sweet and heart-shaped, with big blue eyes and a full, pink mouth that was just begging to be nibbled on. A tiny woman, she had on well-worn denim jeans that hugged the sweet curve of her ass like it was their one duty in life. Her V-neck sweater was a dark blue, and she wore a gold locket around her neck that looked old and sentimental, hanging low between her breasts like some sort of siren’s lure.

He stared down at her, realizing that the sleep deprivation had apparently not killed his sex drive. He was suddenly, uncomfortably aware that it’d been forever since he’d even thought about jerking off. Sweet, curvy, girl-next-door types were his greatest weakness, and this woman was all that and more. God, she was beautiful. He just wanted to take a handful of her backside and squeeze.

Snippet 2:
Everything went very still and quiet, their breathing the only sound. Their faces were just inches from each other, his hands shifting to her waist, her own on his shoulders.
Her gaze dropped helplessly to his lips, and then back to his eyes.
“Wes,” she whispered. She didn’t know if it was a warning. Maybe it was invitation.
He certainly took it as one.
He kissed her, and it was like a dam breaking inside. It flooded her: all that tension, all that desire, all those naughty, dirty thoughts she’d been weighted down with since the second she saw him, standing in that doorway, his shirt open like some sort of special gift just for her.

Snippet 3:
“Play your cards right,” Lily said. “And you might get me for breakfast.”
He licked his lips, thinking of last night, of how sweet she tasted.
“Promise?” he asked.
She grabbed his discarded shirt from the bottom of the bed and threw it on. His stomach tightened at the sight of her in his old college T. She was so tiny the hem almost fell to her knees, and the material was worn and thin, draping across her perfect double D’s like a second skin.
She caught him staring at her, practically drooling, and winked before sashaying out of the room.
Wes slumped back in the bed.
He was so very screwed. Either Lily was an angel sent from heaven or the devil in disguise.
And frankly, he could care less which one it was as long as he got to keep her with him.

The Ultimate Guide to Raising Teens and Tweens By Douglas Haddad – Promo, Giveaway

Raising teens and tweens to become healthy, loving, and independent individuals is a process filled with pitfalls and challenges — from bullying, drugs, sex, and peer pressures to unrelenting societal demands, endless technology challenges, and negative parental or school influences. Award-winning educator Douglas Haddad, who has helped thousands of middle school students transition from being kids into young adults, presents a forceful, insightful, and inspiring guide for parents, educators, and caretakers to use to help raise the newest generation in his latest book, The Ultimate Guide to Raising Teens and Tweens: Strategies for Unlocking Your Child’s Full Potential (Rowman & Littlefield, February 2017, ISBN: 978-1-4422-5695-8; 286 pages).

“Children are living in a ‘war on childhood,’ where problems no longer are viewed as opportunities to problem-solve, but rather an ‘enrichment opportunity’ at every turn,” asserts Doug. “Our children are over-scheduled, distracted by technology, and exposed to so much so fast. We need to help overwhelmed parents and educators to navigate this overwhelming, frenetic-paced society.”

Doug identified 10 tools to nurturing smart, successful, and self-disciplined teens and tweens, including:

  • ·  Be the boss by sharing power with your child
  • ·  Use empathy and consequences
  • ·  Kick your kid’s butt effectively – but not literally
  • ·  Give your child the license to problem ownership
  • ·  Get your kid Motivated

“I’ve written this book to provide you with the essential tools to help you make that transition from sole decision maker and manager to a supportive facilitator in helping to successfully guide your child through turbulent waters and set appropriate limits as they grow to become unlimited in their potential as smart, successful and self- disciplined individuals,” says Doug. “In order to successfully support and guide your child as they encounter adversity, defeat, failure and peer pressure, it is important that you possess specific strategies to fall back on when things get rough.”

He also outlines the warning signs and solutions to 10 critical challenges middle schoolers and high schoolers are exposed to, including:

  • ·  How to take the “bull” out of bullying and address youth violence
  • ·  How sex can change a child’s life forever
  • ·  Bad habits: gambling, alcohol, drugs, smoking
  • ·  Depression and suicidal tendencies
  • ·  Eating disorders, physical inertia, and health issues

Doug has seen firsthand many of these challenges that kids experience. As an educator, he spends between seven and eight hours a day working with children from different backgrounds and possesses a wide perspective on the needs of “the whole child” and the challenges they are going through. Furthermore, as a child, he experienced relentless attacks from bullies, and because of that, he’s been an outspoken advocate against youth violence.

His book provides a fresh, comprehensive guide for parents who desperately seek solutions, especially answers to these problems:

  • ·  “How do I gain confidence as a parent to choose wisely and help my child succeed at all levels?”
  • ·  “How can I react better when faced with temper tantrums or rebellious behavior?”
  • ·  “How do I effectively talk about topics like sex, drugs, and bullying with my kid?”
  • ·  “How do I listen better so I actually get to know who my child really is?”
  • ·  “How can I communicate effectively and connect with my child so she knows I love her?”
  • ·  “How do I get my child to be motivated at school and in organized activities without becoming detrimental to my child’s development or injuring our relationship?”

“The difficulty in parenting today,” says Doug, “lies in a lack of knowledge for many parents with burgeoning problems that children are currently faced with, as well as a parent’s ongoing concern for her child’s safety and needs, and how all of these pressures can create a disconnect between them.”

Doug provides parents with useful, time-proven, kid-tested methods to handle stressful or dangerous situations appropriately and effectively. By providing anecdotes, specific steps and tools, practical exercises, and encouraging ideas, Doug provides the strategies that parents will need to simplify parenting in a fast-paced, tech-driven, info- saturated and complex world – and gain a lasting connection with their child – while truly helping them prepare for adulthood.

“Douglas Haddad delivers parents a no-fail approach to raising children. If you could read only one book to help children become successful and reach their unlimited potential, The Ultimate Guide to Raising Teens and Tweens has everything you need and is the one to get!” – Jack Canfield, multiple #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling co-author of Chicken Soup for the Soul ® series, success coach, and human potential thought leader

Blurb:

When financially-strapped actor J.J. McKinney responds to an unusual Help Wanted ad on the bulletin board outside his theater class, he has no idea that he’s in for an evening of improv like no other: posing as the hitherto fabricated boyfriend of one Erika Mills for the duration of a single family reunion. But hey, a job is a job, and if it will help get J.J. back in the good graces of his landlord, he’s completely on board. After all, how bad can one family reunion possibly be?

Enter Erika Mills: only child of one meddling mother, reluctant darling of several devoted yet squabbling aunts and uncles who are sure they know what’s best for her even if none of them can agree on what that is, and beloved grandchild of the tiny white-haired family matriarch who might just be more imp than invalid when it comes to managing family matters in spite of appearances to the contrary.

Throw in a suspicious cousin, an obnoxious ex-boyfriend who is determined to erase that whole “ex” thing from Erika’s vocabulary, and a rash deathbed promise that turned out to be less deathbed and more just a bad case of indigestion, and you get the reunion from hell—at least until the sparks begin to fly for real.

It ain’t Off-Broadway, but it still might turn out to be the role of a lifetime…

Exclusively on Amazon

Excerpt!
“Hi.” It took J.J. a moment to think of the next step in making introductions, partly because the woman standing in the doorway was strikingly pretty with delicate features and an almost pixie-like haircut and partly because there was such a look of panic in her expression that he half-wondered if he’d managed to interrupt an emergency situation and was about to be trampled flat by stampeding evacuees trying to escape a house fire or perhaps a Tupperware party gone horribly wrong. “Are you Erika? I’m J.J., and we spoke—”
“Oh, thank goodness!” And to his utter surprise, she actually threw her arms around him in a hug that was unmistakably one of relief. A quick hug, though; she released him almost immediately, flushing slightly in a disarmingly attractive way that made J.J. think impromptu hugs from strangers were highly underrated. Certain ones anyway. “Sorry. I just wasn’t sure you’d show, and you were the only one who called about the ad, and—” She broke off mid-sentence and shook her head before resuming talking in a veritable flurry of words, yanking the front door closed behind her and wringing her hands. “Never mind that now. J.J. was it? Okay, listen, we don’t have much time because my mother was hot on my heels when she realized you’d arrived. I actually tipped over a potted plant to slow her down—which I’ll pay for later I’m sure—but in the meantime: you’re Oscar, got it? Oscar Dwyer.”

The Lucky One by Sylvie Stewart – Cover Reveal

THE LUCKY ONE
by
SYLVIE STEWART
When your luck runs out, do you run away—or do you stay and fight?

Bailey:

Let’s get one thing straight. I am not your typical girl. Sure I’ve got all the parts, but I’ve been a stubborn, irreverent tomboy since the womb, as my Irish father would proudly attest. Despite my Irish blood, I’ve had a bit of bad luck here and there—I recently trusted the wrong guy and got derailed in my professional pursuits. But I’ve bounced back. With my shields firmly in place, I thought nothing, or no one, could touch me again. Until he did. And he just might make this tomboy do the girliest thing in the world—fall head over heels in love. Of all the damn luck…

Jake:

I’m a pretty lucky guy. I have a phenomenal family, a career I love, and I’m building a brand-new life back in my hometown. And, not to be a jerk about it, but I do more than all right with the ladies. Everything’s been going according to plan—like I said, I’m a lucky guy.

That was, until my luck ran out.

Until I met the girl I call “Irish.”

Irony can go kiss my a$$.

Excerpt #1:

I was struck again by the thought that everyone in the world seemed to be good with kids but me. And how unfair was it that Jake Beckett was not only hot as sin and a wizard in the sack, but he was also nice to small people and fainting women?

What was I supposed to do with that?

We finally pulled into the driveway and I hopped out quickly to avoid any awkward assistance that might be offered. Seeming to need no invitation, Jake followed us inside and closed the door behind him.

I took a deep breath and firmed my back as well as my resolve.

“As you can see, we’re all fine. I appreciate your concern—and the burritos—but everything is under control. We’ll go ahead and get on with our day and you can get on with yours.” I held my hand out toward the door like some damn restaurant hostess.

“Uh-huh,” he replied and had the nerve to lean against the entryway wall and put his hands in his pockets.

What was this? Was he posing for a bachelor-of- the-month calendar?

Gah!

I performed the hostess gesture yet again.

This time it received a grin.

“What?!” I demanded.

He looked me up and down. “Uh-huh.”

I became acutely aware of my attire and general appearance in that moment. I could feel the heat rising to my cheeks.

My hair was in a messy ponytail and I was dressed in athletic shorts and a men’s t-shirt. I didn’t need to look down to know there was a ketchup stain on the hem and a dinosaur riding a bicycle on the front. I have no explanation.

I urged myself to ignore Jake’s look and not even attempt to interpret it.

This moment perfectly captured the reason all Jake’s texts and calls had gone unanswered over the past three weeks.

He wasn’t texting me.

He was texting the girl from the wedding.

The girl I’d pretended to be for one night.

The girl I would never be.

The one I couldn’t afford to be.

Excerpt #2:

For the entire week leading up to the big day, I’d walked back and forth across my living room in a pair of ridiculously high heels, determined that I would not humiliate myself by falling on my face in front of everyone I knew.

I’d thought I was prepared.

I was wrong.

I felt a twinge of something when I woke up, but I brushed it aside, as there were many things to be done—the worst of which involved Fiona plucking errant hairs from my face that I insisted I needed to keep for warmth when winter came. She didn’t share my feelings.

But, as the day progressed, there was no denying what was happening to me.

I was falling victim to the oldest cliché in the book. My brother was getting married, my friends were in happy relationships, and I was single and about to turn thirty. I could almost physically feel the cloak of the proverbial Old Maid descending upon my shoulders.

And that right there was how a tall, handsome, smooth-talking guy by the name of Jake Beckett worked the second oldest cliché in the book and got laid by a bridesmaid.

Excerpt #3:

Jake finished his entire bottle in one go. I watched his throat work as he swallowed, and my knees sent an S.O.S. signal to the rest of my body. We’re going down!

“Are these ‘complicated’ things part of the reason you won’t go out with me?”

He was really going there, wasn’t he? I couldn’t seem to catch a break.

I stuttered in my response. “I-I- It’s hard to explain that.”

He studied me and then nodded, his expression turning knowing. “Question.” He moved a step closer. “Are you attracted to me?”

Ha! Like my horny text and my jumping him at the wedding hadn’t been clear enough!

Add in my skin’s propensity to mimic a pomegranate and I may as well just take out a billboard—Take me now, Jake Beckett, you sexy beast!

I felt like my entire body was about to combust. “Um,” was all I could manage.

“I’ll take that as a yes.” His lips quirked up in a cocky, lopsided smirk.

Jerk.

Correction: hot jerk.

Author Bio:
Sylvie Stewart’s addiction to books has been a lifelong problem. It was the cause of many scoldings when her mother discovered Sylvie army-crawling to the bookshelf after lights out. And it is the reason her husband would have a fairly solid case if he claimed “alienation of affection” and pointed a finger at her e-reader (a.k.a “The Precious”). Never-the-less, books are in Sylvie’s heart to stay, and she has transformed her love of books into a career as an author.
A recent move to North Carolina inspired Sylvie’s debut Romantic Comedy series. Carolina Connections is a collection of standalone novels based in her new hometown, and it combines her love of romance, humor, and sexy times. There is also some wine drinking incorporated in there, as this is another of Sylvie’s passions. Perhaps a future story will also involve kayaking, a new interest in Sylvie’s life. Experience has taught her that you can’t kayak and drink wine simultaneously, though, so don’t try this at home!
The Fix and The Spark are now available, and The Lucky One releases on May 11, 2017. More projects and new installments to the Carolina Connections series are in the works. That is, if Sylvie’s eight-year- old twins will stop trying to peek at her laptop while she’s writing. That might lead to some awkward parent-teacher conferences.

Excerpt 1
Maddugh’s amber eyes slashed into Kailigh. “No fire?” He snorted. “You’re coming with me. Now.”
Kailigh stood, locking her knees. “I don’t appreciate your tone of voice.”
“No?” He strolled closer, stepping close enough she wanted to reach for her knife, and stuck his face in hers. “I don’t care if you care for my tone of voice or not. We have a bargain, and you can’t fulfill it if you are dead, mistress.” He lifted a finger, touched her cheek. “Careful, Kailigh. If you renege on a bargain with a dragon—you become part of his hoarde.”
The low, nearly intimate tone told Kai one thing—he wanted her to become part of his hoarde. If she reneged on the bargain, it would be the pretext he needed to get what he wanted. Kailigh understood what he wanted on the surface—but she didn’t understand why he looked at her as if what he wanted, and she herself, were intertwined.
She tried to take a step back and her body betrayed her, adrenaline dropping to allow the effect of the poison to make itself known. He caught her as her knees crumpled, swinging her up into his arms.

Excerpt 2
Maddugh turned, tail dropping in front of her with a certain finality, lip drawing up to reveal a fang.
She glared. “Get out of my way, you oversized forest toad.”
Amnan coughed. “Mistress, we have things well in hand. Further bloodshed will—”
“Make my point.”
She danced around the tail, swiping her scarlet skirts out of the way. Maddugh snorted, and his form contracted. Kailigh took advantage and strode past him, Persia going to Cinvarra.
“Father, you mentioned something about chomping if I put hands on your woman,” Amnan said.
“Get out of my way,” she snarled at the Dwyrkin who formed a guard in front of the prisoners.
An arm slid around her waist. “Temper, Kai,” Maddugh said in her ear. “We need to see to your wound, and Cinvarra. Come, let the guards take away the bad nasty humans.”
He continued to talk, in what he likely thought were soothing, persuasive tones, drawing her away. Kailigh didn’t resist because she knew he was right—Cin came before her desire to cut someone. She noted out of the corner of her eye that Amnan gestured hastily, and the guards ushered the prisoners away. Quickly.
“Bloodthirsty wench,” Maddugh said. “I approve the sentiment, if not the practicality of it in this situation.”
