enjoying the scenery and anticipating the adventures that lay ahead

Day three found us eager to get back on the road north. The days so far had been travel days and we had another one ahead of us before our adventure began in earnest.

Heading north, we reached Virginia and ended up spending two nights; one in the southern part of the state and a second night in the northern part of the state. It was a beautiful drive and we were captivated by the mountain views.

Our first night in Virginia was spent at the Wytheville KOA in Wytheville. The campground is located between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Allegheny Mountains and about a mile from the interstate.

The KOA was really nice and we snagged a last-minute reservation and spent a restful night there. Seems I neglected to snap a few pictures so I grabbed a few from app.

We spent a peaceful day traveling thru Virginia and I never tired of the mountain scenery. Our second night in Virginia was spent at the Candyhill Campground.

There was definitely a story on how we arrived there. While the campground is located directly off of the interstate, GPS decided to send us on the scenic route. Let’s just say there is no shortage of small country hilly roads in Virginia and we traversed many of them! I’m convinced our GPS listens to my conversations on how much I love getting off the interstate and traveling the backroads! The drive was actually quite pleasant.

I was experiencing some trigeminal pain in my face and didn’t take any pictures. These are from their website.

The campground was full and we were happy to snag a place in the “overnight” section near the entrance of the property. My normal planning style is always extremely thought out and campground reservations made, but this trip was a different type of trip and as much as it goes against my personality, I decided it was going to be a “semi” fly by the seat of your ragged britches type of trip. So far, it was working out, but it was only day three and four.

Given the campground’s close proximity to a major highway and the interstate, we were surprised to have a restful night. We woke to beautiful weather and continued our trip northward.
