My Review –

As you can from the list above, Jojoba Oil has many uses. My favorite way to use this product is to make a Vanilla Sugar Scrub. With my love of vanilla, when I saw the recipe on Amazon, I knew I had to try it. The scrub is wonderful. Although I didn’t try another fragrance, I’m sure your favorite would work just as well as the oil has no smell.

I took my favorite body lotion and added a little of the oil, which ended up making my favorite lotion even better. I haven’t yet tried the oil on my hair, but I am definitely thinking about trying it. The oil has worked wonders in the uses that I have already tried and I am sure it will be great on my hair.

I can definitely recommend Jojoba Oil, especially if you are into making your own body products. As I mentioned, there is no smell making it a great prime ingredient. Jojoba Oil comes in a glass bottle and is packaged in a protective box.

Decadent DIY Vanilla Sugar Scrub

As if jojoba oil wasn’t already like a love note to dry or winter skin, this 3-ingredient scrub seals the deal. Use it on your face, lips, hands, feet, or for head-to-toe TLC. Combine 1 cup of brown sugar, a ½ cup of Viva Naturals Organic Jojoba Oil, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Or create a cinnamon scrub by swapping the vanilla with 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon. Store it in an airtight container.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is your jojoba oil food grade?

A: Yes and no. Our jojoba oil is 100% food grade, however, because it’s a luxury oil, it’s best suited for beauty and hair care, where it can be used sparingly. Using it in place of a cooking oil in a recipe would not be economical.

Q: What is the difference between golden jojoba oil and refined jojoba oil?

A: Our golden jojoba oil is in its purest form- unrefined, unbleached and 100% pure. Refined jojoba oils are bleached to strip away color and jojoba’s nutty aroma, while removing the seeds’ vitamins and essential fatty acids.

Q: What is the shelf-life of organic jojoba oil?

A: Generally once oils have been opened, they have a shelf-life of 2 years. Depending on storage conditions, jojoba oil may be stored for up to 5 years.

Island Fresh Coconut Oil – Review

Island Fresh SUPERIOR Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Cold-pressed and Unrefined for Irresistible Aroma and Taste, 54 Ounce

I’ve heard a lot about Coconut Oil in the last year and was quite curious about the product. When I was approached by Island Fresh to review the product I immediately replied with a yes!

Coconut Oil has become popular for a number of reasons, some of which are (taken from Amazon):

I enlisted the help of my Facebook friends and followers to find out if and how they use Coconut Oil. I received many responses and was anxious to try them out.

I am currently working to lower my cholesterol and having read that Coconut Oil can assist with lowering it, I have been taking Coconut capsules as I am texture sensitive when it comes to putting things in my mouth. I haven’t been to the doctor to have my cholesterol levels check yet, but I am looking forward to seeing if this experiment has helped me.

As a weight management tool, I have found that Coconut Oil does work as an appetite suppressant. I find that my appetite is no longer acting like a food deprived gorilla!

One person suggested that I roast veggies in the oven using the oil. That turned out very well and I was happy to know that it was a healthy way of cooking vegetables.

I am a person who believes in exfoliating on a daily basis and couldn’t wait to mix a little of the Coconut Oil with sugar and try it for myself. It is amazing! It does tend to be a little greasy because it is an oil, and I was a little unsure about having the film on my face under makeup. I remedied this by using it with my night time routine. I washed the makeup from my face and then used the scrub.

It was a refreshing way to end the day. Although I used soap to remove the bulk of the oil from my face, it left just enough to moisturize and in the morning, my skin was soft and silky feeling. This exfoliating mixture will definitely become a part of my night time routine. I wish I had known about it when I was younger.

Coming up with the perfect combination of Coconut Oil and sugar took a little time, but I did find the perfect balance that worked for me. I did this by adding a little sugar to the oil and then using it on the back of my hand to test the abrasiveness. After just a few tries of adding and subtracting, I had the perfect formula for my face. Meanwhile, my hands also benefited from the Coconut Oil and sugar. I put the mixture into a small plastic container with a lid. Note to self here – continue treating hands to this wonderful mixture!

Available on Amazon for purchase

My next use of the oil was as a conditioner for my hair. I rubbed the Coconut Oil into the ends of my hair, almost to the roots, and let it sit for the length of a nice tub soak. I then shampooed the oil out of my hair. My hair was left silky and shiny – along with the tub. That is the one drawback to using Coconut Oil – there’s a little cleaning involved. I feel that the benefits outweigh the oil slick, but I’m hoping that by running hot water and soap down the drain will combat the oil buildup.

There are many more uses for Coconut Oil and I’ll be trying quite a few more, but overall I am pleased with the quality of the product and definitely recommend it. It is a very useful product and has so many uses that make the price of the oil well worth it. I love the smell. Some of the Coconut Oils that I have smelled had no smell at all. I thought that was odd. The Island Fresh Coconut Oil smells exactly like coconut! The smell is wonderful!

Have you used Coconut Oil? What is your favorite use? I am looking forward to your suggestions as I would love to continue experimenting.

Comparison between the Zink hAppy and LG pocket printer and Do we ever use a bag for it's original purpose?

My answer would have to be no.  I am always multi-purposing bags.Image (2) These two pictures are perfect examples. Both were originally intended to be cosmetic bags. I, of course, found better uses. The green bag is an Orla Kiely bag from Target. I love her products and actually do have one of her cosmetic cases that does in fact house my cosmetics. This green bag, however, was the perfect size for my Zink hAppy printer. There are two zip compartments on this bag. One that is about 1.5″ in depth on top and then the larger bottom compartment. The top houses the recharging cord perfectly. The bottom compartment houses the Zink hAppy and two of the 2″ wide rolls of film. The case will protect them while traveling. (The extra little photo at the upper right is a thank you note that I recently sent to someone who so thoughtfully gave me a plant. No one really wants to ask the recipient exactly what the florist sent, but at the same time, you’d like to know that it was as nice as what was described. This is when one of the little printers comes in handy. I snapped an photo and added some thank you text to the it and printed it. I then adhered it to stationary and mailed it. This would be especially nice to do for those holiday gifts that were mailed to you or your child.) Image (4)The second photo shows a little bag I purchased from Talbots online this fall. I love the pink and blue combination; very feminine. It is just large enough to house the LG photo printer and its charging cord. It also has space to add a pack of extra film. While the Zink hAppy is much to large and bulky to tote around on a daily basis, this handy little LG is the perfect size to tuck into my tote bag. While I enjoy using both products, I have to admit that I like the convenience of the LG’s size. Both products offer several of the same amenities: collage of photos and adding text. The LG offers printing with adhesive and non-adhesive backing, while the Zink hAppy prints on sticker paper. Both products use the same type of film. A cool feature of the Zink hAppy is the ability to print a long stream of photos rather than individual photos. I like to take the strip to my desk and peel and stick the photos. They stay in order and the strip prints much quicker than the individual pictures from the LG. I keep a travel journal and using the printers allow me to print and stick my photos alongside my commentary of the trip. I use an iPhone 5 and each printer has its own app that makes printing a snap. The Zink hAppy communicates via wireless and the LG uses Bluetooth. The Zink hAppy allows you the option of printing using several different size widths from 1/2″ up to 2″ and I think up to 18″ long. You can also make a banner using this device. When printing from my phone’s photo album I was actually able to print a number of photos without stopping. The photos are automatically clipped so when I cut the long thread, all I need to do is peel each individual print off of the backing and place it on my book pages. These are options not offered by the LG. Your prints are 2×3″. The quality of the printers is actually amazing for little printers. The photos from each of these two devices is comparable, although the Zink hAppy does a slightly better job, so either would be a good purchase. Both use Zero ink technology. The prices are comparable. The Zink hAppy did cost more because I purchased a battery so I did not have to rely on plugging the device in. The print paper is approximately the same for both. The packages contain different amounts of film. The jury is still out on the LG battery life. The Zink hAppy’s battery life last a very long time. I’m not sure if I charged the internal battery on the LG long enough – the light was green – or if it died quickly. The instructions are in another language with no English offered so I’m figuring out this printer with no help. It also does not have a designated on/off button per say; the Zink hAppy does. You definitely know when the printer is on and off. *Note here – I just watched several You-Tube videos on this little stinker and it turns out the little lock/unlock button on the side is the on/off. I thought it meant that the device locked to insure the lid did not open. *July 18, 2015 – after using both devices for many months, I can definitely say that I feel the hAppy prints a better quality photo and the battery life far exceeds that of the LG printer. My recommendation if I were to only purchase one would be the Zink hAppy. The Zink hAppy can be dressed up with different colored skins (purchased separately). The LG comes in white, yellow, and pink. I purchased both of these products and the above opinions are my own. How's your pillow treating you? Seriously!

If you are me, this is a serious question. I’m not someone who falls asleep the moment their head hits the pillow, or in my Hubby’s case as it is on the way to the pillow. I really expect him to hit the back of the bed one of these days. He honestly falls asleep before his head hits the pillow – must be nice.

I am always in search of a better pillow because I’m convinced that the perfect pillow will send me into dreamland that much sooner. I am also rough on a pillow. I punch. I squish. I beat it. And, after all of that, I plump it up and expect it to become a cloud on which to lay my weary head.

I was contacted recently to receive and review the Sweet Slumber pillow by Reverie. I actually ignored the email the first time around and agreed when I got the second email. No reason, just wasn’t sure how legitimate the email was. Now, I’m glad I did agree.

I received the pillow and couldn’t believe how heavy it was. As I began to read the enclosed literature, I realized where the weight came from. The Reverie’s Sweet Slumber pillow is composed of shredded natural rubber to simulate down. I received the standard/queen size but it is also available in a king size. It is 100% cotton quilted, and the cover is removable and machine washable. The pillow is also hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial and dust mite resistant.

The Reverie company was founded in 2003 and is a leading manufacturer of adjustable foundations, mattresses and pillows. Going to the website and requesting a catalog would answer any curiosities you may have. It is a really interesting system.

Getting back to the pillow, my initial thoughts after doing my squish, squeeze, pound test was that it really did resemble a down pillow – which is what I use. I put a pillow case on it and tossed it on the bed to try out. The first two or three nights I really loved the pillow. It was like sleeping on a down pillow. I could do all my pounding and fluffing and then sink down in a cloud of soft pillow to sleep. And, I slept good on those first few nights.

Around the fourth night of sleeping on the pillow, I began to notice a slight rubber smell. I continued sleeping on the pillow for an additional three nights before I went back to my regular pillow. Although originally, I slept wonderfully, the smell began disturbing my sleep. Aside from the smell, the pillow is fantastic. It is soft and I was able to snuggle into it for sleeping. I truly am disappointed that I could not continue sleeping on the pillow as those first few nights were really restful.

The bed system looks interesting, but I would be leery of trying it because of my experience with the pillow. If the company can find a solution to the rubber smell, I would not mind purchasing at least the pillows, and perhaps in the future, the bed.

The web site and additional information can be found at: www.reverie.com

I am unsure of what I might rate the pillow due to the smell. As I said, it is truly a comfortable pillow and has many things going for it. I plan on contacting the company to see if they perhaps have a solution. If they respond, I will definitely add their response to this post.

***I did receive a prompt reply from the company on my questions referencing the smell.

“Some people do notice the smell of the natural rubber in the pillow, but they typically notice it on the first night, if at all.  It does dissipate over time, and know that it’s not a synthetic smell such as memory foam.”

I received the Sweet Slumber pillow free of charge in exchange for an honest review.
