My Assessment –

You Can Write – Really is truly a book that guides beginning writers in writing fiction. The Table of Contents is set up in an easy to follow format and depicts exactly what you are getting in each section and chapter, which makes it easy to go back for reference when needed.

Topics that the author, Kelly Wilkins, covers is the Creative Process, Getting in a Zone, and Writing Exercises. Other topics covered in detail are ideas and characters in your story. Point of View is covered in detail – First Person, Second Person, etc.

Readers will find themselves writing by the time they get to Part 3 titled Get Writing. At the end of the book, the author gives the reader advice on submitting their work and marketing their writing, as well as receiving rejection letters.

I agreed to review this book as a challenge to myself. I write non-fiction and some of it reads like a horror story. After coming up against a few roadblocks, I was encouraged by a couple of writer friends to try my hand at fiction writing. I thought this book might help me and it did.

I found You can Write informative, well-written and organized; making it extremely helpful to a beginner writer. I am giving the book five stars.
